I recently acted for a client charged with assault police and resist arrest. It was alleged that my client reached for a policemans pistol! By co-incidence a Channel 10 camera man was at the scene and captured the whole thing on video unbeknown to Police. What it showed was police brutality and police assaulting my client. The video clearly showed my client walking down the street minding his own business when all of a sudden he is thrown with force to the ground landing face down on concrete. Whilst he was face down and just lying there limp one officer strikes him to the head with a closed fist. On the day of the hearing the video was shown and both charges were withdrawn by Police. My advice is to always have your mobile phone handy and video all events that you see involving police and their abuse of power.
